The quote from my little sister Katie as she called me tonight to tell me about her traumatic experience with a little kitty. She told me this story and I felt so bad for the little cat! She's driving from our small town of Berne to Decatur (about 10 minutes away), when she sees a little kitten in the road. So she swerves and misses the kitten, but looks in her rearview mirror and sees the kitten lift its little head up to look at her. So the kitten is alive, but just stuck in the road b/c it had two legs broken. How terrible is that? So, Katie turns around to go pick up the kittie.
Well, in that time, she stares helplessly as FOUR other vehicles hit the kittie. As my sister is running across the road to get the cat, another vehicle stops, and the lady gives her $20 to help her pay for a vet bill for the cat. Apparently that lady felt bad for the kitten too. So, Katie picks up the kittie, sets it on her lifeguarding towel, and calls our town vet, Dr. Grimm. Grimm says he can see the cat, and Katie takes the kittie out there, (all the while she is SOBBING, b/c she is so upset about this kitten's broken legs and the kitten is in obvious pain)... She gets to his house, and Dr. Grimm says there is nothing he can do and he has to put the kitten to sleep. One of the legs is just totally smashed too badly for him to ever be able to fix it. So Katie tries to give him the $20 and he won't take it! This just makes my little sister cry harder b/c now she has made money on this poor little kitten.
Anyways, the whole experience was traumatic for her, and Dr. Grimm told Katie not to watch as he put it to sleep. Katie called to tell me about it b/c she knew I'd be upset about all of this too. So if you ever see an animal on the road, DON'T HIT IT!
