Rookie Mom Mistake #84

ALWAYS...and I repeat ALWAYS have a back up lovie!!!!  We paid for that one BIG TIME last night, and will today too until our replacement gets here!

The Tale of Ducky

A year ago for Christmas, when I was 4 months pregnant, Sam bought monkey and ducky as a Christmas present to our little child.

It started when Brylee was 4 months old and we went to Texas.  MONKEY was the animal we brought along on the trip for her to cuddle on the plane, etc...

This was the start of Brylee loving to hold soft monkey while she played on the hotel bed.

Well....as luck would have it.  Monkey got lost somewhere on our run through the airport coming back from Texas.  But it was ok, Brylee had only been with monkey for a few days, and we had DUCKY still waiting at home for her. We were going to get her another monkey, but Von Maur didn't carry them anymore and since Ducky was just as soft, Brylee didn't care.

So since October... Brylee and Ducky have been pretty much inseperable.

She always has ducky in her mouth...even when building castles with cousin Addy.  It's cute...actually Addy will see ducky on the floor beside Brylee and set him on top of Brylee.
Addy knows that ducky IS Brylee's (just like "Baby" is Addy's... those are the two toys they won't share with each other)

And when Brylee is being mischevious... Ducky is her partner in crime

There has only been one time (UNTIL NOW) that Brylee has had to go to bed without Ducky.  When we were back in Knoxville in January, we left him at Sam's mom's house and she overnighted him back to us.

But for the day that Brylee didn't have ducky, out of all of these toys...

She found this bathtime doll that she never had played with before...and would chew on the little yellow ducky that is on it, carrying it around with her.

So with Ducky going EVERYWHERE with us (even the church nursery people give Ducky a special identification tag on Sunday's to match Brylee's), we lost ducky at some point on our run and visit to the playground yesterday evening.  So how do you think bedtime went? I honestly didn't realize it was going to be THIS BAD.  She went to bed at 8:30 p.m. like normal, but at 11:30 p.m. woke up screaming (using the word "crying" would have been a huge understatement).  And she was INCONSOLABLE.  It didn't matter if I rocked her, cuddled her, let her lay with me and Sam, she was a mess.  I would feed her a bottle, and as soon as the bottle ran out, she would scream at the top of her lungs again.  She would look in the diaper bag, put both hands in there, and then pull out something soft (like an extra onesie in there)...and then just throw it down on the ground screaming.  I tried to give her other lovie toys (none of them the EXACT same material as ducky though), and she would throw it and just cry and cry and cry.
Needless to say, we were up the majority of the night last night, and I'm even contemplating taking her to the doctor this morning... jut in case.  Because technically if your child screams for over 2 hours you are supposed to (and I normally would have), but I really think it was just b/c she was sooooo upset about Ducky!  She sleeps with him on top of her head every night.
Now are you ready for the BIG ROOKIE MOM MISTAKE????  My sister called me three weeks ago, and told me she had found the exact same duckie on diapers.com and that I should order it for Brylee. I was like yah, I will... but then I kind of forgot about it...and besides, Ducky is like our fourth child, of course I thought we would never lose him!
Hmmm.... well guess who is impatiently waiting on a shipment from diapers.com coming on Friday?!?!?

Haha my uncle went through the EXACT same thing with the same type of blanket/animal. This is definitely something that I am going to have to keep in mind when I have kids. Brylee is gorgeous! Love the pics!

we have the pink pig one and Molly couldn't care any;thing about it. I kept trying to push it on her bc it's so handy, small, soft, and can go anywhere. Nope, she likes blankets big heavy winter ones, and wants about four all at one time. Not great for traveling at all. I honestly would've been more than happy to go retrieve a new "ducky' or "ducky dos" from Baby Bundles for yall-at least now we know!?
