So on Sunday Sammy and I shopped/window browsed for baby stuff to get an idea of the type of crib, bedding, decorations we liked for a boy or a girl. Sammy was a trooper, he went to baby boutique after baby boutique, Babies R Us, Pottery Barn Kids, and then even Motherhood Maternity with me over a 4 1/2 hour time span =). Honestly, I think he was as into it as I was...and was even very helpful in finding me a maternity pillow so I can sleep more comfortably (which that pillow was shipped to us yesterday, and it is WONDERFUL).
But anyways, we were in a speciality store carrying baby cribs and children's beds, and we discovered the cutest decoration - Big Belly Banks!!! I asked the owner of the store about them, and it was such a sad story!
This man had stopped by the side of the road to help out a vehicle that was broken down. While he's outside helping out the stranded driver, his two year old crawls into the front seat, is somehow able to hit the gas, and crushes the man inbetween both vehicles! So, the man is taken to the hospital, etc.. and is paralyzed because the bones in his leg are just too broken to be able to fix. So anyways, the man can no longer do his job, his wife divorces him, and he is broke and barely making it. Well, he couldn't afford to buy presents for his kids, so for Christmas (or a birthday I can't remember) he decided to make them these Big Belly Banks, because he had always been good at wood carving. Well, they were a hit! These banks turned into a business for him, and he has now sold over 600,000!
